This week we will continue to work on our Communities Around the World project. We will learn about Mexico, followed by an exploration of some of the countries in South America. Our project work will include reading stories, listening to music, looking at art work and dance performances, and learning about geography. In our science center we are learning about the life cycle of plants and flowers. This week we will plant flower seeds! In our math center we are working on number recognition, addition and subtraction activities, and patterns. In our literacy center we are reviewing the alphabet and working on phonics activities, word building, and dictating informational texts. Many of our books this week will be based on our science and social studies units, and include From Seed to Sunflower, The Tiny Seed, Grow Flower Grow, and Wherever You Are. We are completing a month long unit on poetry, and we will begin to work on independent story writing in the coming weeks. In religion we will be exploring the parables of Jesus. On Friday we will have a May Crowning for Mary in our classroom.
1) On Friday we will crown our classroom statue of The Blessed Mother! Please send your child to school with a flower to place before Mary’s statue during this special prayer service. We will crown our statue at 2:20. The children will then be dismissed at the usual time, 2:30. You are all cordially invited to come to the classroom to pray with us!
2) Our class been practicing for the annual Spring Show! A letter will go home this week regarding the details of our performance.
